Lens Upgrades
Cataract surgery treats cataracts by replacing the eye’s cloudy focusing lens with an artificial intraocular lens, which has a basic prescription. While the entire procedure is covered under OHIP, upgraded lenses are available that offer enhanced features or prescriptions.
With upgraded multifocal lenses, many patients can enjoy life glasses-free. Another lens can correct for astigmatism and often only inexpensive ‘cheater’ reading glasses are required. There are even new multifocal lenses that also correct for astigmatism!
After your eyes are measured, you’ll be informed if any of the upgraded lenses should be considered to achieve your best possible vision.
While lens upgrades are an out-of-pocket expense, patients can save significantly over time by reducing or eliminating the need to purchase prescription eyeglasses.
